3D Canvas Modes for Setup Development
The Setup Development tab has five modes that you can use when interacting with the headings data in the 3D Canvas. The name and icon for each mode is displayed in the Modes pane at the leftmost of the tabs. You change between modes by clicking the mode you want to use.
Orbit
The default mode. You use Orbit mode to rotate, pan, and zoom the view to locate specific headings or groups of headings.
You rotate the view by clicking and holding the left mouse button while moving the pointer on the canvas.
You zoom in and out by clicking and holding the right mouse button and moving the pointer over the canvas. You can also zoom in and out by rolling the mouse wheel, if your mouse has one.
You pan by clicking and holding both mouse buttons and moving the pointer over the canvas. You can also pan by holding down the middle mouse button or wheel, if your mouse has either, and moving the pointer over the canvas.
Note: If you are in another mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom without cancelling the current mode, hold ALT to temporarily switch to Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue your actions.
Select
You use Select mode to select headings in the canvas to more easily identify their entries in the data grid.
You select a single heading by clicking the heading in the 3D Canvas. The selected heading is highlighted in red. When the Show only canvas selection filter is turned off and a heading is selected in the 3D canvas, the entry in the data grid which corresponds to the heading is highlighted. When the Show only canvas selection filter is turned on and a heading is selected in the 3D canvas, the data grid is filtered to show only the entry in the data grid which corresponds to the heading.
You select multiple headings by holding CTRL and clicking the headings in the 3D Canvas. If you have multiple headings selected and want to remove some of the headings from the selection, you can hold SHIFT and click the headings you want to remove from the selection.
When headings are grouped together spatially you can select the headings by dragging a box over the group of headings you want to select. Any heading that falls partially inside the box selection is selected.
If you have started a selection and want to discard all of the headings that are selected, press ESC, or click in a blank area of the 3D Canvas.
Note: If you are in Select mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom without cancelling the selection, hold ALT to temporarily switch to Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue your selection.
Reverse
You use Reverse mode in the Connections tab when you want to reverse the direction of a heading in the design.
When Reverse mode is active, the direction of any heading you select in the 3D Canvas is reversed.
Note: If you are in Reverse mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom before choosing the next heading to reverse, hold ALT to temporarily switch to Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue reversing headings.
Connect
You use Connect mode in the Connections tab when you want to manually connect two headings in the design that are not automatically connected.
Note: If you are in Connect mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom before choosing the next headings you want to connect, hold ALT to temporarily switch to Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue connecting headings.
Change
You use Change mode in the Parameters tab when you want to create a parameter change. That is, when you want to define a position along a heading after which the parameters are different from the initial parameters graphically.
When Change mode is active and you move the pointer over a heading in the 3D Canvas, the distance from the start of the heading to the cursor location is displayed.
Note: If you are in Change mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom before choosing the next location after which the parameters of a heading change, hold ALT to temporarily switch to Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue selecting change locations.

When Add mode is active and you move the pointer over a heading in the 3D Canvas, the distance from the start of the heading to the cursor location is displayed.
Note: If you are in Add mode and want to rotate, pan, or zoom before choosing the next location surveyed face location, hold ALT to temporarily enable Orbit mode, and then release ALT when you want to continue selecting face locations.
